How Do I Fix My Cakey Makeup? Tips to Avoid Cakey Foundation!

by Angie <3

When I started to do my makeup, one thing that I began to notice was throughout the day, the makeup around my nose would begin to bunch up and just look so cakey. If you’re wondering what cakey means, it basically means that the makeup looks extra heavy as if it’s just sitting on top of your skin and bunching up instead of acting as a second layer of skin (not a cute look!). Thus, the name “Cakey Makeup” was born.

If you have any troubles with a cakey nose or cakey makeup in general, fear not! Down below, I showcase three steps on how I defeated this annoying issue; the examples apply specifically to my nose, however, the same principles and concepts can be applied anywhere on the face. Are you ready for my tips? Let’s get started!

Step 1: Before Applying Makeup, Exfoliate!

If there’s one tip that I feel really addressed the whole cakey-nose issue, I feel like it’s this one! Each time before I apply my makeup, I really like to exfoliate my nose. What does this do? Well, it’s a small step that can make a world of a difference. When you exfoliate your nose, you’re basically getting rid of any of the dead skin cells in that area and smoothing it out. I’ve found that when I exfoliate before I do my makeup, the products really just soak and absorb into my skin. This tip doesn’t just work with helping the makeup on your nose look better, but it really works for all of your face makeup in general!

With this tip, since I exfoliate my skin so often, it’s important to use an exfoliator that’s not too harsh on your skin so it doesn’t just strip your skin each time! My favorite exfoliator at the moment is the St. Ives Blackhead Clearing Green Tea Scrub. In my opinion, this exfoliator is very gentle on my skin so I can use it daily. Although it’s gentle, it still exfoliates my skin beautifully; this product just has the perfect balance of being gentle yet effective! It’s also pretty affordable and comes with a lot of products, where a little bit goes a long way!
